Keep Your Gloves Dry

Copyright Ó 2001 Jukka Ropponen

I hear goalies often complaining about how slimy their gloves become after some usage. This is true, especially with goalies that use them a lot and don't necessarily have the time to let the gloves dry out between usages.

It is usually caused by all the sweat that drips into you gloves while playing and practicing with them. Today's chest & arm protectors are built in a way that there isn't much to stop the sweat.

One of the things I have found to be real effective is to use wide & thick baseball type sweatbands under your arm pads. Make sure the sweatbands come out about 1" longer than your arm pads. These sweatbands also add a little more to the level of comfort for those goalies that like to keep their wrist parts on C/A's tightly closed with the Velcro straps.

Now that you have these sweatbands on, they will stop the sweat from dripping into your gloves quite effectively. Several of the pros I have coached actually have multiple pairs of sweatbands in their lockers and usually put on fresh dry pair in between periods.

After the game or practice just throw the sweatbands into the laundry together with the rest of the stuff in your laundry bag.

Good, wide sweatbands

Here you see good, wide sweatbands that will help to keep the sweat away from your gloves.

Proper positioning of sweatbands

Notice the proper positioning where the sweatbands come out further than your C/A.
